A raw hair scrape test takes under a minute and needs only a blade. Scrape a few strands from top to bottom and look at what comes off: a light residue means real human hair; a black residue means the hair is mixed with synthetic fibre and dyed black. Real black human hair never scrapes off black. Use this video to test the bundles you receive at home, or send it to your vendor and ask them to film the same test on your own bundles before shipping.
How to do a raw hair scrape test (step by step)
- Hold the bundle by the weft and pull out a small section of hair, about the width of a finger.
- Take a clean blade, a cutter or a sharp knife, and wipe it so you start with a clean edge.
- Scrape down the hair from root to tip, 5–10 times, pressing lightly. Do not cut the hair.
- Check the residue on the blade. A light brown or whitish residue means real human hair. Black or dark residue means dye, coating or synthetic fibre mixed in.
- Repeat on 2–3 bundles from the same order, from different parts of each bundle.
What the residue tells you
| Residue on the blade | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Light brown or whitish | Real human hair, no black dye | Continue with a wash and burn test if you want extra proof |
| Black or dark grey | Dyed hair or hair mixed with synthetic fibre | Stop, keep the video, and contact your vendor before using the hair |
Ask your vendor to scrape test before shipping
The best time to run this test is before the hair leaves the factory. Ask your vendor for a video of your own bundles being scraped, with your name or today’s date written on paper in the frame, before you pay the balance. A vendor selling real raw hair will send it. A vendor who refuses, or sends an old video, is one of the raw hair vendor red flags to check before you pay.
At Govihair, we film this test on your own bundles before shipping, on request. Send us your product, length, colour and quantity on WhatsApp +84 795 746 986 or email [email protected], Monday to Saturday, 07:30–17:00 Vietnam time.
